Vertex AI
Vertex AI is Google Cloud's machine learning platform for building, deploying, and managing AI models. It provides tools for data preparation, model training, and deployment in one place, streamlining the end-to-end machine learning workflow, and it also gives access to Google's generative AI models.
Teams use Vertex AI to prepare datasets, train models with their own code or with automated tools, deploy models to endpoints for predictions, and monitor them once they are running. Bringing these steps into one platform supports MLOps practices such as repeatable pipelines and model versioning.
For example, a manufacturer could label images of good and defective products, train a vision model in Vertex AI, and deploy it for inspection, then retrain it as new product variations appear.
Vertex AI is a platform, not a single model. The models it hosts, whether custom-trained or provided by Google, are separate from the tooling Vertex AI provides to build and run them.
