Vision AI
Vision AI is the use of artificial intelligence, including computer vision, machine learning, and image processing, to interpret images and video. It lets systems classify images, detect and locate objects, and spot defects or anomalies, supporting tasks such as quality control, safety monitoring, and inspection.
A vision AI system captures images from cameras, runs them through a trained model, often a deep learning model, and outputs a result such as a label, a bounding box around an object, or an alert. Models can run in the cloud or on edge devices next to the cameras for real-time decisions.
In manufacturing, vision AI inspects products on the line for defects, missing components, or incorrect labels. In the public sector, it can monitor road work zones, detect overheight vehicles approaching a bridge, or flag flooding on a roadway from camera feeds.
Vision AI is closely related to computer vision. Computer vision is the broader field of getting computers to understand visual data, including traditional rules-based image processing; vision AI usually refers to applying learned AI models to those visual tasks.
